In the South, we're known for our large breakfasts with biscuits and gravy. However, have you ever heard of chocolate gravy? Biscuits are still required for this recipe, but the gravy is a little different than the traditional sausage gravy you'll find in most recipes. Few restaurants offer this sweet treat, but it's most often served at breakfast time with traditional breakfast foods such as eggs, bacon, etc. If you're not familiar with chocolate gravy, definitely give it a try. It's typically found in the South, where you'll find the best biscuits to pair it with!
Ingredients:
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 3 tablespoons self rising flour
- 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 1/2 cups whole milk
- Biscuits to serve with the gravy
Directions:
1. In a medium saucepot over medium heat, add the butter, self-rising flour, cocoa powder and sugar. Whisk together, adding milk and continue whisking constantly until thickened. Be sure and whisk well, you don't want lumpy gravy!
2. Place biscuits on a plate and pour the gravy over the top of the biscuits. Serve immediately while it's still warm! You don't want to eat this cold (it doesn't taste the same).
